A Chance Run in on the Bus

Every few months, a bunch of friends and I like to get together in a lodge in the mountains for a few days. To get there though, I'd have to take the bus for three hours, then get picked up by a friend and driven out the rest of the way.

The plan for this particular trip was to call my friend on my cell phone and have her meet me at the bus depot. Twenty minutes before the bus was due to arrive, I pulled out my cell and went to call my friend. It wasn't the greatest cell phone in the world, and as had happened many times before I couldn't get it to work. I played around with it for five minutes or so, and still nothing.

Frustrated, I leaned across the ile and said, "excuse me, I'm visually impaired and I was wondering if you would be able to tell me if my cell phone is turned on. I can't seem to get it to work."

There was a pause before the woman sitting across from me answered. "I don't know how to tell you this...but I'm visually impaired too."

"You're kidding!" I responded, completely shocked that there had been another blind person sitting a few feet away from me for the past few hours and I had not known about it.

Then, for the next few minutes, we sat there, the phone held between us trying to figure out how to fix it.
